The work is situated on the approach road on the outskirts of Wrexham. The landscape is situated between two hills – on one stands the grand church of Saint Silyn, opposite stands the imposing limestone frontage of Ysgol Sant Silyn. The artists brief was to create an artwork on a curved piece of land, falling gradually from the roadside to the banks of the River Gwenfro, which is by now channelled into a wide culvert. Following a national competition, Richard Harris was commissioned to undertake the work. The artist proposed siting part of the work on the original site, with an extra section situated on the opposite side of the road. In addition, the 'Two Rivers' proposal included the River Gwenfro as an integral part of the work. The Environment Agency granted permission to cut and shape part of the riverbank, to create a shallow pool containing substantial boulders roughly positioned in the shape of a semicircle.
The only part of 'Two Rivers' visible to commuters is the two enormous stainless steel arches, positioned one above the other on the slope below the school. The mirror finish arches are placed at such an angle as to reflect the sky above. The work was funded by the council and the Welsh Development Authority.
