Finlay's approach to sculpture garden design created a thematic landscape, rather than the inclusion of disconnected sculptures in the garden. He was vocal about his dislike for sculpture parks stating that, 'Every summer, in Europe's 'sculpture parks', Art may be seen savaging Nature, for the entertainment of tourists'. The result at Stockwood is six works, located within a green garden, which seek to transform the space into another world by referring to Stockwood's past and to Greek mythology.
