The totem pole structure was carved by native Canadian Indians in the early 1960s. It was commissioned by Dr Falk Heinz Kroch, a director of Lankro Chemicals Ltd, Manchester, after he saw examples of native carvings on a visit to Canada. The sculpture represents a day in the life of Lankro Chemicals. Dr Kroch can be seen at the bottom of the pole carrying his briefcase.
