Copied after an original by Domenico Fetti (Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum) and engraved by P. van Lisebetten in 1660 for the Theatrum Pictorium (see Teniers P635–367). The collection was kept in the château of Coudenberg, Brussels, which Teniers evoked in a number of fanciful views of the Archduke’s picture gallery. The grandest view (versions Petworth (dated 1651) and Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum) includes the original of the present picture, which was one of a number of Teniers’s copies in the Duke of Marlborough’s collection at Blenheim, described by George Vertue in 1740 (see also Teniers P635–636).
