This Public House began life as three small cottages which were soon converted. It was opened for business in 1834. It now stands on the corner of High Town Road and Midland Road - the houses standing below it being demolished to make way for the railway station. It has had the most name changes of all Luton's public houses. It was briefly named The Mitre, then became The Railway Inn, until 1960 when it reverted to The Mitre. Now it is The Railway Tavern.
