In the story of the Parable of the Lost Silver (or Lost Coin), a woman loses one of ten silver coins and keeps searching until she finds the lost coin. She then rejoices in finding her lost coin. The moral lesson of the parable is that God's love for all people is so great that he won't give up on trying to bring every lost person back to Christ. This coloured drawing is a 1:1 scale preparatory design for a stained glass window, known as a cartoon. Shaded coloured areas indicate the colour of piece of glass, whilst the thick black lines indicate the lead lines used to join the pieces of glass together. Finer painted details would be painted onto the glass. The design by James Tennant Lyon (1836–1872) was made in 1865 by Field and Allan for Trinity Church, Irvine, Scotland.
