This study of a jay is painted in bold colours, with the surface of the bird almost broken up into geometric shapes. The artist, Tony Evans, referred to his later works in this style as 'planar'. He was an excellent draughtsman and was interested in looking for the bold shapes in nature, the landscape and in human and animal forms.
