The Honourable Mrs Bethell faces left wearing a low cut dark turquoise dress, lace fichu and white bandeau in her powdered upswept hair. Born Anne Sandys in 1734, Mrs Bethell was the daughter of Samuel Sandys, 1st Baron Sandys (1695–1770) and Laetitia Tipping (d. 1779). She married Captain Christopher W. Bethell RN (1728–1797) on 21st July 1768.
