A stone depiction of the Holy Trinity from the fifteenth century, bought in 1952 in Delft, Holland, and said to have come from Holy Trinity, York. This was assumed to be Holy Trinity Priory in Micklegate but might also have referred to Holy Trinity Chapel in Fossgate. Bearing in mind the religious dedication of the medieval fraternity, hospital and guild, and the depiction of the Holy Trinity on the guild’s secular seal, this statuette has great significance for the Company of Merchant Adventurers. Then there was distress at the Reformation and reluctance to abandon the Catholic faith and its ceremonies and symbols, particularly among some of the merchant community. As they regularly traded with the Low Countries, it is not inconceivable that someone took it abroad for safe keeping.
