In the foreground are the waters of the sea reflecting a sunset of yellows, oranges, blues and black. At the centre of the image is a large ship. The lower half of the ship's hull is a greyish brown, the upper half white, and the upper half bears the name City of Perth at the right, in black. The ship has two large masts, one at the front and one at the rear. Two blue flags fly from the rearmost mast, at left, along with an orange flag with the Union Jack in its upper right corner. Between the two masts is a white four-storey section showing square windows and an orange funnel topped with a band of white and a band of black. The four-storey section also has the name, City of Perth, written in black. A few figures can be seen standing behind the rails or on deck.
