A landform sculpture of a pony galloping over the events arena below, for which it forms a windbreak. Named 'Sultan' by locals after a former 'show' pit pony, it is one of the largest figurative earth sculptures in the country. Parc Penallta was laid out on land reclaimed from the Penallta Colliery which closed in 1991 and the sculpture symbolises the pit ponies finally released to run over the mountainside – the last pit pony retired in 1999, the same year this sculpture was created.
