A large conical form made of horizontally laid shallow slabs of stone. The sculpture stands underneath a glade of trees at the meeting point of three paths. In a national competition to find an artist-in-residence for their Marking the Ways scheme, Great North Forest received 200 proposals from artists across the country before settling on Rose. Rose has worked on several outdoor sculptures in the North East using steel or wood and has found that his work is susceptible to vandalism. He therefore wanted to make a much 'tougher' piece for Edenhill. This prompted his decision to work with stone. The idea of a cone came about as a response to such regional architectural features as cairns and church spires as well as to the particular character of the forest site (chosen by the sculptor himself) 'Stone Cone' was constructed on location.
