Sculptor, printmaker and lecturer, born in Newcastle upon Tyne. He studied at the Polytechnic and University there. His awards included one from the Arts Council, a Northern Arts Travel Award and the Northern Arts Major Bursary, 1985–6. Among his residencies was Woodhorn Museum, Northumberland, 1986. Rose’s many group appearances included Small Works Show, Newcastle Polytechnic Gallery, 1982; Steel Sculpture, at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, 1988; and the Newcastle Group show The Northern Lights at DLI Museum & Arts Centre, Durham, 1990. Solo exhibitions included Gulbenkian Gallery, Newcastle, 1978, and Hatton Gallery, Newcastle, 1979, and in 1992 Yorkshire Sculpture Park, where Rose showed tree and ground sculptures. That exhibition marked the culmination of Rose’s Henry Moore Foundation Bursary.
