This is a First World War shrine erected in 1916 before the end of the conflict at the instigation of the then vicar, Reverend F. C. J. Gilmore. It was finally dedicated by the Bishop of Oxford on 25th Dec 1917. Designed by architect Spencer Slingsby Stallwood, the memorial itself was constructed by Samuel Elliott & Sons Ltd of Caversham with the figure of Christ being carved by H.H. Martyn of Cheltenham. The memorial is constructed principally from teak and takes the form of a Calvary cross. it consists of an oak figure of Christ attached to the cross, with a nimbus over his head. The cross stands beneath a gabled canopy. On the upper arm of the cross is a carved scroll with the monogram INRI. The cross has a tall, square shaft with the conflict dates carved in relief on the front (south-west) face.
