Charles Tunnicliffe, born in Langley, was an admirer of oriental art, and its two dimensional style. This led him to experiemnt with oils painted directly onto unprimed cloth, as in 'Sitting Hare' and 'Two Barnacle Geese'. These two paintings, with flattened perspective, were made in the late 1930s and early 1940s. They were amongst the artist's favourites and decorated the walls at his home on Anglesey, Shorelands.
