Best known as designer of The Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition of 1851, Paxton was commissioned in 1845 to create a new cemetery for the city of Coventry, the London Road Cemetery. It survives today as one of the best preserved Victorian cemeteries in the country. This bust of Paxton is probably a cast after a marble bust by Edward William Wyons, in the Royal Horticultural Society collection.
