Godber became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1947. Knighted in 1962 and advanced to GCB in 1971, Sir George retired in 1973. In recognition of the value to public health and his influential leadership, he was awarded the gold medal in Therapeutics of the Society of Apothecaries in 1973.
