'The Memorial' is a huge vertical piece of iron, laser cut with the names of vessels which have sunk or run aground off the shores of the Fylde Coast, between 1643 and 2008. A larger text, in relief, runs the full height of the memorial, with words taken from the famous 'Seaman's Hymn'. A circular aperture frames a significant view along the Fylde Coast, having the feel of a porthole. It is supported by two large timber posts, which house two plaques listing the names and dates of the ships and information, regarding the tragic event which lead to the loss of a ship. It also marks the start of the Mythic Coastline public art trail along the coastline at Cleveleys. The story of the Sea Swallow comes to life through pieces of public art in a trail around the Wyre coastline to Fleetwood.
