Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi
1606–1680
(b Bologna, 1606; d Rome, 28 Nov. 1680). Italian landscape painter, sometimes called Il Bolognese after his place of birth. He developed an attractive landscape style in the manner of the mature Annibale Carracci, and his work, which was popular with collectors and much engraved, helped to spread the tradition of ideal landscape in Europe.
