An over life-sized statue of 'Cranogwen' (Sarah Jane Rees), who was a pioneer in many fields – from poetry to journalism. She is shown standing holding a book extended in her left arm as if mid-reading her winning poem from Aberystwyth National Eisteddfod in 1865. She is wearing a traditional authentic styled long dress and jacket from c.1820, with her spectacles tucked into her top. 'Fan' her dog stands proudly by her side. The base reflects the landscape of the beach where Cranogwen grew up and the statue is fractured horizontally to reflect the strata of the rocks. Running from top to bottom are ribbons containing verses of Cranogwen's poetry, again reminiscent of the alabaster bursting out of rocks on the beach – symbolic of her poetry within.
