His paintings are concerned with light and colour and expressing the Scottish landscape in a dramatic way. His subject matter comes from his home environment in the rural area of Moniaive, Dumfriesshire, where he paints full-time and tutors in drawing and painting, and also the Isle of Arran, Sutherland and the Western Isles.
