The painting was donated, as the small plaque records, "In Memory of E. J. Buttar (1876–1943) Conductor of the Cricklade Choral Society". The infant Thames and the 'cut' to the original West Mill (hence West Mill Lane) are shown, together with a relatively uninterrupted view, in those days, of St Sampson' s Church.
