A standing figure of Queen Anne in elaborate dress and regalia holding an orb in her left hand, set on a plinth of red marble. Overhead is a canopy with a half-dome supported on red marble pillars. The pediment behind shows dates of great military victories of the Queen's reign carved on the sides. The canopy and statue now back onto the outside wall of the church and face a neat, flower-filled square. Jacob Bancks, a Swede by birth, was a Royal Navy captain who married into the Luttrell family. Bancks was elected to Parliament as a member for Minehead and served the borough until 1713. He was knighted in 1699. A great admirer of Queen Anne, Bancks saw the effigy of the Queen on the west front of St Paul's Cathedral, London, and in 1719 commissioned a similar statue for Minehead.
