A study for the figure on the left of one of Egg's last works, 'The Travelling Companions' painted in 1862, which shows two sisters in a railway carriage on the outskirts of Mentone (City Museum and Art Gallery, Birmingham). Egg travelled to the Mediterranean for his asthma but eventually died of it.
