There is a busy scene along the view of Pavement, with groups in doorways of shops and those watching a Punch and Judy show in the background. There is a female figure leaning out of a window from a first-floor building. The shop on the right has a sign which says 'Dalton, Rope and Sack Manufacturer'.
Nearly all of the buildings in the scene have now been demolished, including St Crux in 1887. The buildings in the far distance were also demolished to create Stonebow.
