The sculpture was one of several commissioned for the Festival of Britain in 1951, where it stood in company with works by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Reg Butler. Following the end of the Southbank exhibition, the works were dispersed and it is believed that Erik Estorick, the art collector, and ex-Camden parent acquired the work for the school.
