This sculpture combines found and shaped steel. It’s a rhythmic work that dynamically divides space in this otherwise peaceful stretch of campus. Along with Linenfold, it was exhibited as part of ‘Blok’, a 2003 exhibition of British iron and steel sculpture in Canterbury curated by Paul Wager, then of Loughborough University.

Blunsden’s sculptures are informed by early jobs as a sign-maker, welder and merchant navy seaman. Of the latter he states that, working in the engine room, ‘you become part of the machine after a while, and this experience: the physicality of the moving parts brought together as a whole, has always stayed with me.’ He found that steel allowed him to express this rhythmic dynamism. Blunsden has a work in the California University of Pennsylvania’s collection, and continues to produce works for interior spaces.
