Full-length portrait of Paganini turned to the left, his left arm and violin outstretched, his bow held upright.

Ink splodges reflect the sketchy speed of the drawing, which came from the Scottish home of Edward Ellice, Landseer's great friend and fellow sportsman with whom he often stayed in the Highlands. Further drawings by the artist, including watercolours, were also done on embossed Invergarry paper.
