This painting of the artist’s father was one of the first to be hung in Maesteg Town Hall. Evan Williams was a grocer who owned a shop in Commercial Street Maesteg. He had wanted his son to be a doctor, but after some time he relented and promised to do all he could to help him become an artist. This was probably painted to commemorate the year of office as Chairman of Maesteg Urban District Council. Christopher thought that it was a true likeness and one of the best paintings that he had produced.
