Born in Galashiels in 1956, Tom Davidson initially trained as a graphic designer at the Cumbria College of Art and Design from 1974–1977. He worked as a freelance graphic designer for several years before rediscovering printmaking in 1984. Predominately working in linocuts, he also produces etchings and aquatints.

In this print, Davidson captures a crisp, wintery morning in the Scottish Borders. The low sun shines through the leafless trees, casting beautiful stripes of shadow on the country lane below.
