A sculpted memorial on what appears to be a slate backing. It is mainly rectangular but with a cusp below on which are two ships. Either side of the plaque are two women, on the right she is leaning on an anchor, on the left she holds a sword. The whole is surmounted by the family coat of arms. James Saumarez was 1st Baron de Saumarez, GCB, and was an admiral of the British Royal Navy fighting briefly alongside Nelson.
