Inscription description

In commemoration of the 20 miners who were seriously / injured by fore and the 5 men that died of their injuries in the / Sutton Colliery (Brierley Pit) disaster on 21st February 1957. / W.Savage, aged 29 Coal Getter / J.W.Betts, aged 55 Ripper / J.Lemm, aged 35 Shearer Assistant / L.Reeves, aged 45 Coal Getter / J.Godber, aged 16 Supplies Hand / The original sculptures were installed in tribute to all those who worked / at the colliery from 1872 to 1989 on behalf of the local community by / Ashfield District Council and the Friends of Brierley Forest Park in 2003 / Sculptures (based on the original design by Robert Koenig) and / memorial stone replaced in 2020 by Natural Cut Stone Ltd, funded by Ashfield District Council and the Brierley Forest Park Trust.
