Born in Edinburgh in 1954, Pat Kramek began her career as a textile designer before becoming a full-time professional artist. She is predominantly a painter of landscapes and seascapes, inspired by scenery from all over Scotland.

Kramek works mainly in oil, applying the paint thickly and energetically in a heavy impasto style. These broad, expressive brushstrokes create texture and movement. From a distance, her unusual, bold use of colours blend to form realist scenes while close up they take on a more abstract, energetic quality.

This painting was purchased by The Katie Lord Memorial Fund, to improve the quality of the hospital environment for both staff and patients. Katie Lord was Directorate Manager for Dermatology, Infectious Diseases, GU Medicine and Metabolic Directories when she sadly passed away in 2003.
