Martin Morgan was born in 1966 to Robert and Kathleen Morgan. He is a double-graduate of Queen's University Belfast, with a Masters in Social Work. Since 2008, Morgan has worked as a Social Worker for Child Care Social Services.

Morgan was first elected to Belfast Council in 1993, representing the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP). He served on Council until 2005, when he stood down to concentrate on his career in social work.

Morgan was vice-chairperson of the SDLP and a member of the party's executive.

Morgan is a columnist for the North Belfast News, addressing current and political affairs.
