Margaret Ellen Watson the eldest daughter of Thomas Watson, a wealthy silk spinning business owner and Liberal party politician from Rochdale. Margaret Ellen Watson, died in 1882 and in memorial had this bust carved out of one block of white marble. Her father also built Rochdale Infirmary in her memory.
