This painting shows Lord Elwyn Jones, Labour politician, who came from Llanelli and who became Lord Chancellor in 1974. Tony Steele-Morgan painted a number of portraits at this time of sitters in front of a window opening out onto views. These views were often of significance to the sitter. In this case, the view shown signifies Lord Elwyn Jones' roots, which lay in industrial Llanelli.
