Thickly painted landscape, predominantly in shades of brown, depicting a horse drawn cart travelling from Hampstead Heath to London. Passengers sit upon the cart, which travels along a rough terrain; to the left of the road, two women stand before a row of stone buildings watching as the vehicle begins its journey and descends towards the bottom of the heath. On the right, a small cottage stands alone amongst dense trees and grassland, and in the distance, a broad landscape separates Hampstead from London. A hazy view of the city can be seen in the distance with the dome of St Paul's Cathedral visible on the horizon. The sky is grey and overcast, with scattered dark clouds.
