Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1850. Lierre is ten miles south-east of Antwerp. Roberts depicts the nave of the church of Saint-Gommaire which was built 1425–1557. The sixteenth-century rood loft across the nave had been restored shortly before 1850. Roberts paid at least five visits to Belgium between c.1826 and 1861.
