Woolacombe is a seaside resort in North Devon which lies at the mouth of a valley (or 'combe') in the parish of Mortehoe. Andrew Macara was born in Ashbourne, Derbyshire in 1944 and spent a brief period at the St Ives School of Painting, studying with Leonard Fuller. In 1981 he was elected to membership of the Royal Society of British Artists.
