Hewitt creates an enchanting patch-work blanket effect by laying areas of flat unmixed colour straight onto the board using a palette knife. The outlines of the fields are traced in a dark black/brown which results in a grid-like composition made up of sludgy browns, and various shades of olive and leafy green. Two small white cottages can also be made out, sheltered amongst a clump of trees.
