Although the question of sitter identity, raised as an Art Detective query in 2020, was not fully resolved, if this painting is by Huysmans she could certainly not be the Lady Jane Boyle who died in 1780: she was born in 1699, three years after he died. Since clearly a mid- to late-seventeenth century portrait, the Lady Jane Boyle in question is more likely to be that one’s grandmother, née Jane Seymour, 1637–1679, fourth daughter of William Seymour, 2nd Duke of Somerset.
