A bacchante is a female follower of Bacchus, the god of wine. Here she is seen treading grapes and holding bunches above her head. This sculpture was originally made as a plaster model in 1907, after which ten bronzes were cast (this version was the last to be cast). Bourdelle worked as an assistant in Auguste Rodin's studio until 1908.
