A Border Leicester sheep and her lamb were chosen for the meaning of the town’s name – Sheep’s Head. Carved at approximately twice life-size they are backed by a huge slab of green slate bearing the name of the market place, the contrast and size making them visible from the far end of the street. On the reverse side is a double seat, again carved from white limestone, which resembles rolled sheep fleeces with a pair of shears lying on top. Encircling a dedication plaque above are hoof prints of both ewe and lam
