In 1754 John Hynde Cotton married Anne Parsons, the daughter of Alderman Humphrey Parsons, brewer and sometime Lord Mayor of London. They maintained a financial interest in the brewhouse in St Catherine’s, London, and inherited some of the Parsons silver. He employed Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown to remodel the landscape of Madingley Hall park in 1756.
