Inscription description

sign mounted on wall next to the statue is inscribed: THE JIMI HENDRIX STATUE / John Swindells' bronze sculpture of Jimi hendrix, sponsored by Solo, / presents the legendary guitarist dressed as he was for the last ever UK performance in the early hours of Monday September 1st 1970 / Held a mile or so away from here, at East Afton, and after stellar / performances by the likes of Miles Davis, the Doors, Joni Mitchell and the / Who, Jimi was performing to an audience of around half a million. The / event was within sight and sound of Dimbola and lives on digitally, / thanks to the CBS sound team, and filmmaker Murray Lerner. / Jimi was moving towards a new, quieter and more serious realm of / music, and much of what he played deep into the night had not yet / appeared on disc. we can only guess at what he would have achieved if / he had not died in London, a mere three weeks after this gig.
