Jewels of the Sea / Over thirty cast iron sculpture have been created throughout the park / by the artist Andrew Mckeown. These sculptures are inspired by / single cell organisms called Diatoms. / Diatoms are a type of plankton and they form the basis of almost all the food chains in the oceans. / The sculptures aim to symbolize the start of the new life at the East / Shore Village where once stood the Vane Tempest coal mine. / The artist worked with local schoolchildren to develop the sculptures / andrew mckeown 2006
