This sculpture acts as a dramatic entrance feature to this Metro Station. On either side of the entrance a brightly coloured design of cog wheels, and a beam engine forms part of the fencing surrounding the Metro. Over the entrance itself an arrangement of swirling steel shapes forms an archway. This sculpture was designed by artists-in-residence Tim Tolkien, Eric Velderman and Paula Woof, in conjunction with pupils at James Watt Infants and Junior School, Handsworth. The theme of the design was that the Metro Stop entrance and school boundary, which the sculpture borders, were turned into a machine that James Watt would have been proud of.
