Lord Nelson was a naval officer known for his victory, and death, at the Battle of Trafalgar. This portrait, a cast of the marble bust at Burnham Thorpe in Norfolk, from an original of Austrian sculptor Franz Christian Thaller, shows the empty sleeve of Nelson's jacket folded around his chest. Nelson had lost his left arm in battle in 1798.
