This painting depicts a boy looking over the fence towards George Romney's childhood home near Dalton. In 1909 Furness Railway opened the house, at High Cocken (about 2 miles from Barrow), as a museum. This was part of their new tourism strategy (the idea of Alfred Aslett, the General Manager since 1895). People as far away as Leeds were able to buy tickets for Lakeland rail tours that stopped off at Railway Company refreshment rooms and hotels.
