This painting was made 70 years after the death of the Scottish Borders artist Tom Scott, RSA, in his memory. Scott was born on 12th October 1854 and died at Leslie Cottage on 31st July 1927. The painting includes the following inscription: 'Grey hills and blue hills that melt away / The beautiful hand is stilled'.
